Primary Production

Primary production is the foundation of ecosystems, where plants, algae, and certain bacteria use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic compounds like glucose. This process, known as photosynthesis, fuels entire food webs, providing energy for all life forms. Without it, ecosystems could not sustain the diverse array of life we experience, making it crucial for ecological balance and life on Earth.

Stats -  Phytoplankton, microscopic algae in the ocean, are responsible for approximately 50% of the Earth's primary production

Boundary - Though we are still within a safe operating space for the production of oxygen and sugars, primary production is predicted to decline by 4-11% by 2100 under current industrial practices.
